Peak District Wedding

This Peak District wedding was a fantastic event and very close to my heart as it was held in the village of Grindleford, only three miles from where I grew up. I met Rebecca and Ryan in Leeds which is now where they live but they returned to Rebecca’s roots in the Peak district for their wedding day, getting married at The Maynard, a boutique hotel just on the outskirts of the village.

Rebecca told me about a funny story regarding Ryan’s proposal. They got engaged in San Francisco when they were one week into an amazing two week holiday travelling down the west coast of America. Ryan had already carried the ring through three airports from Manchester to Las Vegas to San Francisco and he decided that San Francisco would be where he would pop the question so he didn’t have to keep the ring hidden any more! On the day when he proposed they had hired bikes to cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge. It was a really fun and beautiful day until Becca went flying off her bike whilst coming down a hill. It could have been a lot worse than it was and luckily there were no broken bones but she was bruised, scraped and bloody. It was all of five minutes later at a view point overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge that Ryan finally proposed. They apparently now joke that Becca was actually concussed at this point and that’s the only reason why she said yes! But she did say yes and she now has an impressive scar on her shoulder to this day as a lasting memory of the day they got engaged!

Now the beginning of their wedding story actually starts with a very special someone who is a big part of Rebecca’s and Ryan’s lives. This is Buster, their dog, and honestly the cutest pooch ever and a real character. He really wanted to join his owners for their day. Unfortunately this wasn’t possible but as you can see from the images below he did make it to the pre-wedding shoot to check out their wedding venue. I was pleased to see that he thoroughly approved of their choice!

On the day itself we started off with bridal prep at the hotel  where I was greeted with a nice cup of tea and a room full of bridesmaids. These girls were great fun and up for some photos right from the start. They all looked stunning in their navy blue dresses which was a lovely contrast to the orange and red autumnal tones of the flowers. I loved the styling for this wedding, a lovely rustic autumn theme with vivid colours, pumpkins, autumn leaves and the star of the show was their pork pie wedding cake which was very unique and looked stunning. There was a lot of laughter at this wedding and not just a few tears either. Every time I looked someone had a handkerchief out, but that just goes to show how close these families and friends were to each other. This wedding really had a lovely atmosphere.
The day went so smoothly , without a hitch and we even avoided the rain. For the couple portraits we made use of the beautiful gardens at the Maynard with gorgeous views over the Derbyshire countryside. The Speeches were superb, very heartfelt and entertaining and we ended with a very romantic first dance. Huge congratulations to Rebecca and Ryan on a fabulous day. I thoroughly enjoyed photographing your wedding and wish you both and Buster all the best for a fabulous life together.
