We had absolutely fabulous weather and amazing locations for this stunning wedding at Ripley Castle. Danielle and Ben tied the knot at St John’s church in Knaresborough and had their reception at Ripley Castle near Harrogate. This castle is a grade I listed medieval country manor house and is a very grand and romantic wedding venue. We started off in the morning however at two different locations. Danielle and her bridesmaids had stayed at the lovely B&B Mansion house called Hazel Manor in Killinghall near Harrogate and were getting ready there, whilst Ben and his groomsmen were getting ready at home in Knaresborough. I started the day at Hazel Manor where I arrived to a lovely cottage on site that was bustling with bridesmaids and makeup artists. Everyone looked so happy and in great spirits and I was given lots of cups of tea and danish pastries so I was very happy! I think they were ecstatic because we had such great weather and it was predicted to be fabulous all day! Once the girls were ready we had the father-daughter reveal and I think everyone in the room had a bit of a tear when they saw Danielle looking so stunning in her wedding dress. Danielle’s Dad had a seriously proud moment!
After a few photographs in the blossom filled gardens Danielle and her Dad set of in the wedding car to Knaresborough Church. Ben was at the church looking very sharp in his suit and eagerly awaiting his bride to be. The ceremony went without a hitch, with some lovely readings and the couple walked out to much applause and confetti throwing. We had time for a few group shots at the church and then the couple were whisked away in the wedding car to Ripley Castle.
As soon as we got to Ripley we had planned to do the couple photographs so we set out around the stunning lake and gardens to take a few shots. It was a beautiful time of year with blossom trees and daffodils and of course we included a walk down to the famous jetty for the classic shot of the castle from across the water. Soon we were back to the reception area of Ripley for more congratulations and a few canapés followed by a receiving line before heading upstairs for the wedding breakfast. The reception room looked absolutely stunning and very elegant with much of the styling including the table numbers, signs and place names done by the bride herself. The speeches went very well and were both very funny and moving and soon everyone was tucking in to their wedding dinner.
After the dinner it was time to welcome the evening guests. We also had a bit of extra time available and the old part of the castle was opened up so the couple could have some pictures on the Grand Staircase. Then to finish off the night we had the cutting of the cake followed by the first dance. Danielle and Ben had a bit of a routine set up for the first dance and I found out later that Danielle’s Dad had actually choreographed this! We left the guests rocking the night away to some groovy tunes by the The little Big Band.
I thoroughly enjoyed photographing this wedding with such a lovely couple and stunning locations. A huge congratulations to Danielle and Ben and all the best for your future together. I hope you are having an incredible time on your honeymoon!
I would like to thank the staff at Ripley castle for being so accommodating and helpful on the day and to my assistant/ second shooter Eleonor Woodruff for doing an excellent job. It was also a great pleasure to work with videographer Ryan of Mulhern Media who I know produces the most stunning work! I can’t wait to see his video of this wedding. I’ve included an aerial image (at the bottom of this post) kindly provided by Ryan, taken with his drone of the Ripley Estate from above.
