We had an amazing day for this recent fabulous wedding with Grace and Anthony which involved families from Yorkshire and Uganda. After the big day the couple did mention to me that they were so pleased with how these two families from such different cultures got along so well and most of them had never met before! You could also see this from the fabulous atmosphere present throughout the whole day!
The couple tied the knot in Knaresborough at St John’s church and then moved on to a beautiful barn venue; The Normans, just outside York. We started off at Grace’s family home for the bridal preparations and I had a fabulous time photographing friends and family and the two very energetic little flower girls. Everyone was in good spirits and soon Grace was in her dress and ready to go. It was then that I learnt that this beautiful dress and in fact all the bridesmaids dresses had actually been been made by Grace’s mother! Not something you see very often and very impressive, all the girls looked absolutely stunning! Meanwhile Anthony was getting ready at the couple’s own home in Knaresborough and then walked to the church with his groomsmen along the lovely little cobbled lanes that he and Grace were so familiar with.
As I was a about to leave the girls and head for the church I heard the news that Grace was actually getting the surprise gift of a Morris Minor classic car in which her Dad was to drive her to the church. This was apparently in response to the fact that during the wedding planning she had repeatedly said they didn’t need a car! now she had one and she loved it ! So Grace arrived at the church in style. The ceremony went really well with some emotional readings and the couple walked out to much applause. We then had an honorary sword arch to salute the newly married couple followed by a showering of confetti. Everyone was in super spirits and there were many congratulations all round. After a few group shots I whisked the couple away for a few portraits around Knaresborough Castle. The weather and views were stunning and we even managed to dodge the Saturday crowds. Next Grace and Anthony hopped into the Morris for the trip to the reception venue.
The Normans is a stunning Barn venue transformed from an 18th Century working farm and run by a couple whose family have lived there for generations. It has a lovely rustic countryside charm yet is both cosy and elegant. This was the perfect intimate setting for the couple’s wedding reception. The guests piled into the huge barn interior for the wedding breakfast, the place was filled with fairly lights so had a lovely sparkle. I have to say the speeches for this wedding really were fabulous. Grace started off the speeches and was followed by her dad and Anthony, then the two best man and was finished off with an impromptu choir singing arranged as a surprise for the couple. Anthony’s speech to Grace was very moving and included a lovely song that he sang to her in honour of their day, there were quite a few tears all around!
Finally it was time for the first dance and I was very impressed with the couple’s moves on the dance floor! They were soon followed by a very lively crowd of family and friends. Afterwards, it was still light outside so we had time to do a few quick shots in the hay fields around the venue as the sun was setting and back in the venue’s courtyard. This was all in all a perfect day, a stunning wedding with two lovely families and a brilliant atmosphere. I’d like to wish Grace and Anthony all the best for your future together and it was a pleasure to photograph your day! Thank you also to Oliver at the Normans who was so accommodating and looked after us on the day, and to my second shooter/ assistant Lucille for doing a great job.
