This was just a brilliant wedding at the York Marriott with a fabulously fun couple Layla and Miles. I arrived to a very busy bridal suite full of family, bridesmaids and flower girls who were all in great spirits and having much fun. Layla was looking relaxed and taking everything in her stride. There was so many opportunities for photography in the morning. The flower girls were having loads of fun including a very expert demonstration of flossing. There was also lots of gift giving including a surprise beautiful diamond and pearl necklace and earrings given to Layla from Miles. During all this activity Miles was texting Layla in a panic about the groomsmen’s cufflinks, which it turns out later he had all along! Layla was having to make the momentous decision of wether to have the ceremony inside or outside as clouds were looming on the horizon! She had so wanted to be outside for the ceremony so decided to go for it and all ended well as we didn’t see a drop of rain.
The ceremony was not without a bit of drama as Layla descended the long steps with her Dad to the gardens, her veil got caught on a rose bush and then decided to almost take off in the wind. This caused a few laughs among the guests and some memorable photos. Once Layla had made it down the aisle you could just see that Miles was so moved to see his bride to be. He was a little choked up during the vows which Layla said was a surprise as everyone expected her to be the one to get quite emotional. After the vows the couple walked down the aisle to much applause and two confetti bombs discharged by the cheeky Cain and Tommy. The weather held out everyone had a great time congratulating the couple and having a few canapés.
Soon it was time for the couple shots and we spent a few minutes wandering around the colourful gardens before heading in for the wedding breakfast. There was a lovely atmosphere and everyone was in great spirits welcoming the couple in to the room. The speeches went so well. Layla commented to me afterwards how proud she was of her Dad, who is naturally a quiet man, for doing such a wonderful speech. It was also very amusing to see that the best men’s speech included a judge and a jury who delivered hilarious conclusions on Miles’ activities from his past!
After the wedding breakfast the couple hit the dancefoor with a very slick and impressive routine, followed by some very energetic guests. I was very disappointed though to learn that after we left Miles did the caterpillar in the middle of the dance floor. I have a feeling that his plan was to wait until we had gone to avoid any photographic evidence!! All in all this was a fantastic wedding at the York Marriott. Everything went to plan with a few funny stories thrown in and a wonderful atmosphere.
It was an absolute pleasure to photograph Layla and Miles’ day and I wish them all the best for their future together. Thank you to the staff at the Marriott for looking after us on the day and to Lucille Moore for assisting/ second shooting.
