This latest wedding in Thirsk was with a really lovely couple; Heather and Jay, at the fabulously eccentric venue known as The Crab and Lobster. The venue consists of a gorgeous 18th century Georgian manor house, exotic location theme rooms; the girls got ready in the Taj Mahal! and a restaurant and bar that boasts the most eclectic collection of objects from all over the world. This venue is very unique and was great fun to photograph. The staff were also extremely friendly and helpful.
Heather is from the North and Jay a Southern boy but they have also spent years working together in London. Apparently, they met when Heather broke her wrist by falling off a bar stool backwards! she says “I fell off and he fell for me!” They choose the London Underground for their reception theme because of their time together in London where the tube was a big part of their lives.
One thing that truly struck me about this wedding was the fabulous atmosphere. Heather and Jay clearly have many very close friends and family and the wedding had a very warm, friendly, fun feel with people that were very close to each other clearly having a fabulous time.
I started off in the Taj Mahal with the girls and we had a blast! I have to say I really enjoyed hanging out these bridesmaids, what a really fun and friendly group of girls and they all looked stunning in their pale blue dresses. The ceremony was held in a beautiful conservatory style room with hanging flowers and foliage. This is not a huge room, and with there being so many guests it was standing room only. All the guests managed to squeeze in leaving just a narrow aisle down the middle for the bride’s entrance. This gave the feeling of a really intimate ceremony which I loved, with all the guests being very close to the couple during their vows. It also made for some great photography opportunities. I was also so impressed that even with this tight squeeze not a single guest put a camera in the way in the aisle which would have been very tempting, thank you fabulous guests!
After the ceremony there were drinks and congratulations all around followed by a few couple photographs in the stunning gardens. Then it was off to the quirky restaurant setting for the wedding breakfast. There was again a fabulous atmosphere for the speeches with all the guests being up close to the top table. All the speeches were very entertaining with not just a few North-South jokes flying around! Finally they cut the cake and had the first dance and I head off home after taking a few images of some movers and shakers on the dance floor.
It was a fantastic day, a lovely wedding to photograph with a fabulous atmosphere. All the best to Heather and Jay for a wonderful life together as Mr and Mrs.
